Golden Eagles Have A Reason To Celebrate

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team made sure its seven seniors had a reason to celebrate in their last home game.

The Golden Eagles blanked Cal State Monterey Bay, 4-0, Sunday at Jesse Owens Track and clinched their first-ever bid to the four-team California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament. Cal State L.A. (11-5-1, 8-4-1) has 25 points with one conference game remaining Monday at Cal State San Bernardino. The Golden Eagles will jump past Cal State Dominguez Hills and into the third seed with a win on Monday. Chico State and UC San Diego have the top two seeds, although the order is still up in the air.

Cal State L.A. won its fourth straight game and posted its program-record 11th victory of the season.

The Golden Eagles got goals from Erika Prado, Amber de Seriere, Perla Ramirez and Christine Buenrostro and three saves from goalies Reyna Coca and Vanessa Suarez.

Cal State L.A. honored its seniors – Prado, de Seriere, Coca, Suarez, Karly Huerta, Ana Valverde and Megan Stevenson – in pregame ceremonies.

The Golden Eagles enjoyed a 18-5 advantage in shots.

Cal State L.A. got on the board in the 14th minute when Prado scored her second goal of the season. Dana Menard sent a pass to Khadijah Greenwood, whose crossing pass was kicked into the net by a sliding Prado.

The Golden Eagles made it 2-0 when Menard was fouled in the box and de Seriere knocked home the penalty kick into the right corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

Cal State L.A. scored twice in the second half as well. Perla Ramirez, in her first appearance of the season, got to a rebound of a shot by Christine Buenrostro first and kicked the ball into an empty net in the 65th minute.

Buenrostro completed the scoring in the 80th minute. She scored after an assist from Stevenson.

The Golden Eagles will conclude their regular season on Monday at Cal State San Bernardino and will then get ready for the start of the conference tournament on Friday.
